Create Eyes That POP

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone. – Audrey Hepburn

Great advice - but for those looking to take it a step further there are several elements to focus on when doing eye makeup.

Eyeliner:

1. If you want to make your eyes pop try eyeliner on the inside, and smudge shadow on the bottom inside. If you wear the liner on the inside by itself, it can look a little harsh but by adding the liner on the waterline, this can make the whites of your eyes stand out, and it looks great in pictures too.

2. For eyeliner on the bottom: If you have really small eyes, don’t line on the inside (the waterline). This will only close them off. Instead, try eyeliner using pencil or eye shadow just on the outer corner of the eye smudged into the lashes. Stay soft of the bottom, and stay away from harsh lines.

3. If you have small lids, (meaning the space right above your eyelashes) don’t use a thick eyeliner. This will only close the lid, and take away from the contour of the eye.

4. Do use thin eyeliner on top. Try using an angle brush with eye shadow to “tight line” or a gel eyeliner. You can use black or dark colors, but just remember to keep the line thin and not thick.

Highlighting and concealing:

Pay special attention to the inner corners of the eyes by the bridge of the nose since it can get dark, red or grey, making you look tired. Use concealer for this area and to take away the dark circles that start by the bridge of the nose.

1. Try using peach based concealers to brighten dark circles.
2. Don’t forget to highlight by the tear duct. Take a little shimmer, or pearl shadow that is a couple shades lighter than your skin tone. Apply by the tear duct and blend into the bottom and top lash line.

Eyelashes:

If you have a little extra time, lash extensions are always no brainers for bigger eyes. A full strip lash is great for a dramatic look, but for something more subtle (and easier to apply on yourself) a half pair, or demi size to fit on the outer corner, gives the eye more lift and instant definition. Of course, you could go the all-natural route we suggested in March but in the meantime here are a few tips for lash application:

1. Use quality products. The term ‘you get what you pay for’ comes to mind!
2. Apply your eye makeup first, including mascara.
3. After apply the lash adhesive, allow it to dry for just a few moments to become tacky before applying.
4. Rest false eyelashes on your own natural lashes, and push them to your eyelid. This may be easier than  trying to attach them directly to your eyelid.

We hope these little tips inspire you to go glam on your next night out. Have a tip to share? Tell us in the comments below!
